Applying to dentistry programs in the UK is incredibly competitive, and I knew my HKDSE results weren’t good enough—Biology: 4, Chemistry: 4, Mathematics: 5, and English: 5. While my Maths and English were strong, my grades in Biology and Chemistry, which are the most important for dentistry, were below the minimum requirements. I felt so discouraged because my dream schools, like King’s College London or University of Birmingham, seemed completely out of reach.

They suggested I apply to dental foundation year programs, which allow students with slightly lower grades to build their foundation and then progress to a full dentistry degree. They helped me apply to schools like the University of Plymouth and University of Central Lancashire, where the programs offered a second chance.
On top of that, the team helped me write a strong personal statement that really showed my passion for dentistry. They also prepared me for the university interviews with mock MMI sessions, which made such a difference in my confidence.
In the end, I got offers from both universities and decided to enroll in the University of Plymouth’s Dental Foundation Year. After one year, as long as I meet the requirements, I’ll move on to their full dentistry degree.
This extra year is worth it because it gave me the chance to follow my dream. I’m so grateful to Apex Academy for guiding me through this process and showing me that even if I didn’t meet the grades initially, there’s always another way forward!
